Newly Discovered Colour Film (1939): Luftwaffe Fighter Wing JG 77 & Bf 109 Operations

This rare color film shows a day at a German Luftwaffe airfield in 1939 with the 2nd Staffel of Jagdgeschwader 77 (JG 77), known as the “Green Heart” (Grünherz).
The footage documents everyday routines at a fighter unit at the beginning of the Second World War. The film shows aircraft preparation, maintenance work by ground crews, refueling procedures using a mobile fuel truck, and the issuing of orders by the commanding officer Johannes Trautloft.
Several Messerschmitt Bf 109E fighters can be seen on the grass airfield while mechanics service the aircraft and prepare them for flight. Toward the end of the film, the footage shows an alarm exercise as multiple fighters scramble and take off.
This film contains original footage from the early period of the Second World War. Historical military symbols and uniforms of the time may appear. The material is presented for documentary and historical purposes.
